12th October - Finding your Voice
A/L Students of English, Galle District
NOT OPEN TO THE PUBLIC

In this practical, fun, and creative workshop, Sita Brahmachari will share with G.C.E. ‘A’ Level students of English, some tricks on narrative craft so that students can imaginatively express their own voice through creative writing.

If you…

  • Find yourself running away with your imagination;

  • Find yourself writing a diary, journal, song, or poem to express yourself and your feelings about your community, country, and the world;

  • Love listening to stories told by older members of your family about time past;

  • Want to learn how to write creatively better;

Then this workshop is for you! (Nominations for participation will be from schools in the Galle District).





13th October - In Their Voice: Teaching Narrative
Teacher of English, Galle District
NOT OPEN TO PUBLIC

In this workshop Sita Brahmachari will share with you how to teach creative writing focusing on tricks of craft and narrative devices through which your students can explore their imagination, their worlds and find their own voices.

  • If you are a teacher of English at the G.C.E. Ordinary or Advanced level;

  • If you want to pick up tips on how to teach narrative;

14th October - Writing Treasure Hunt
Children: Ages 12- 16 years

15th October - Writing Into Childhood – A Masterclass
Published authors of Children’s Books
Colombo – Lakmahal Community Library - 09.30 am to 04.00 pm

Sita Brahmachari shares her patchwork storytelling process with authors of Children’s Literature. In this practical, creative writing Masterclass Sita will focus on a constant refrain in her work - the writer and the child reader finding their voice.

Participants will engage with the rites of passage moments in childhood and be encouraged to enter a magical world of possibilities that all children need to inhabit. The Masterclass will explore styles and narrative devices at the heart of Sita’s writing including magic realism, oral history, character building, child rights, engagement with communities, culture, landscapes, belief, history, and research.

Sita will discuss her publishing journey and encourage writers to explore the patchwork pieces that form the palette of their own storytelling journeys. Bring along a writing journal!

Open to all Sri Lankan writers who have published children’s and young-adult fiction in English, Sinhala or Tamil.

The master class will be conducted in English.  Limited seats available.

  2. A personal statement which includes what you would expect from the master class in 350 words.
